The Stroke of Dawn – a unique charity draw in support of the Stroke Association

Club Captain Paul Lewis is spearheading a unique charity draw as part of his fundraising activities for the Stroke Association.

Paul's brother Andrew, who has been a member and advisor at the club, is an artist, and has drawn a stunning, original view, which will be familiar to all who know and love the course. The piece, entitled The Stroke of Dawn, is now on display in the clubhouse.

🎟 Win the original artwork
To raise funds, a charity draw is being held. The lucky winner will receive the framed original of The Stroke of Dawn. Tickets are just £5 each, and you can purchase as many as you wish. The draw will take place on the evening of Captain’s Day [June 7].

🖼 Buy a print, double your chance
Unframed and unmounted prints are also available to purchase for £40 each. Every print purchased includes two complimentary draw tickets, giving you even more chances to win while supporting a great cause. A portion of each print sale will go toward the cost of printing and a small reimbursement to the artist for his materials.

🖼 Optional framing
If there is enough interest, a framing service will be offered using the same elegant white frame as the original. Pricing will be confirmed based on demand.

💳 Simple purchase process
All draw tickets and prints will be charged via your bar card for ease of administration. To enter the draw, simply:
* Complete the order form in the clubhouse.
* Drop it into the competition cards box next to the PSI terminal [ask the bar staff if you're unsure where this is].
* Please ensure your bar card is topped up – funds will be debited up to June 7, when the draw closes.

💜 About the charity
The Stroke Association is a national charity, but all funds raised will be ringfenced for services in Devon. In the event that this sum exceeds £5,000, the remainder will be held for the benefit of the club and its own capital projects. Therefore, whatever sums are raised will be going to a worthy cause!

Golf club holds first-ever Remembrance Sunday service

A poignant service to commemorate Remembrance Sunday took place at the club yesterday [November 10].

The first such ceremony the club has held in living memory took place in the vicinity of the first tee and was attended by members and guests.

The service opened with a warm welcome and an acknowledgment of club members who have passed away over the past 12 months, delivered by club president Bob Webber. Ladies’ captain Heather Cowan then led the Exhortation, followed by the stirring Last Post performed by a bugler from Sidmouth Town Band. Club captain Chris Grubb recited the Kohima Epitaph, and a concluding prayer was given by club chairman Neil Faulkner.

The event was organized by club director Jim Anderton, himself a former Marine, and his wife Wendy, who dressed the clubhouse with commemorative decorations for the occasion.

The event underscored the club’s commitment to honoring Remembrance Day, with a dozen-plus attendees staying on to enjoy lunch in the clubhouse afterwards.
