Proud occasion for club’s juniors

10 April 2026

For the first time in 40 years, Sidmouth Golf Club was represented in the prestigious Basil Steer Trophy county competition for under-18s – a fantastic milestone for our junior section!

Led by junior captain Archie GriRiths, alongside Henry Trim and Tom Grover, the team travelled to Stover on Friday, April 10 to face Staddon Heights. This marked an exciting step forward for our rapidly improving young golfers.

All three matches were played in great spirit and delivered some extremely competitive golf:

Archie gave away two shots to a strong opponent playing oR two, but showed real composure to secure a convincing 3&2 victory.

Tom received six shots from his opponent (oR 10) and played some excellent golf. It was neck and neck throughout, but, after a strong performance, he eventually lost 3&2.

Henry, receiving four shots, battled back after losing the first hole to take a lead into the front nine. He fought hard throughout but eventually lost 2&1.

It was a brilliant afternoon of golf, with all three players showing skill, determination, and maturity beyond their years. The future of Sidmouth Golf Club looks incredibly bright!

A huge well done to the team for their eRorts and their calm, composed approach under pressure – even if it felt more tense for those watching!

And of course, a big thank you to the parents and guardians – these young men are a real credit to you and to our club. 👏
